Preventing and Treating Diseases

Every day, people in our community are affected by infectious disease.

An infectious disease is on that you can catch and pass on to other people.

These diseases cause a variety of symptoms and often a sick person needs to be looked after by someone else.

In this task, you are looking for treatments of someone with an infectious disease. The infectious diseases that you must cover are listed below. (Note: you can choose other diseases too after you finish the listed ones)

  • Chicken Pox
  • Measles
  • Common cold
  • Influenza
  • Whooping cough
  • Herpes simplex (cold sores)
  • Malaria

Your task is to write a “Disease Summary” account of your experiences caring for this sick person. You may choose to be a family member, friend or health care professional.
