Year 8 Body Systems

Year 8 Body Systems 2-lessons

Instructions

Lesson 1
We have recently been covering the human body systems and the next area to look into is major health issues in Australia.
The task is to relate a major health issue to a human body system and present it in a digital poster to open discussion within the classroom.
This task will spread out over 2 lessons, allowing you to firstly test and evaluate your knowledge on the topic using “Human Body Online“.
The application is a tool for you to gather information for effects of the illness and screenshots for content.
Once you have refreshed your memory and passed the games, you will have to undergo further research into a major illness before making a poster.
Collect all researched information and links in a blog post within the GC to be further transformed into a info-graphic next lesson.
Before next lesson, make sure that you add constructive comments to 2 other blog posts.

Lesson 2
This work is to be completed in pairs or individually.
You will make your poster with “Piktochart” and an example can be found below, which will also introduce the task further:

Once you have completed the task, add a link to your project in the comments section below for other students to observe. Further to this, share it within the GC page so that other students can comment back.

Body systems function and demos. Major Australian health issues Connectivist learning through observing location of information and researching independently Utilisation of digital resource to visualise body systems and research of health issues Students gather knowledge from app and create blog form research to prepare for info-graphic Students can remove misconceptions and utilise new info to collect and share info in an updated accessible format Content is stored within blog and collected via web to be transformed and presented in info-graphic
Ethical Considerations: Students may have a family history of illness when dealing with common health issues, teacher must be sensitive when discussing to avoid isolation and encourage engagement.

Content Area:                                      Living world, Body Systems

Scientific knowledge changes as new evidence becomes available, and some scientific discoveries have significantly changed people’s understanding of the world. (ACSHE119, ACSHE134)

Lesson Learning Outcome: Utilising research from previous lesson, students are to design and make a info-graphic about a major Australian health issue.
Content Pedagogy Technology Pedagogical Content Knowledge Pedagogical Technological Knowledge Content Technological Knowledge
Students gather info about health issue and create info-graphic relating to body system Constructivist gathering of foundational resources to apply in a different medium, allowing for creativity Use of Piktochart allows students to practice online design skills to create social media style image Students applying knowledge of body systems to demonstrate real world application Students collaborating to create different info-graphics and learn from each other Content created can be utilised on social media to inform friends and family of health issues
